Atlantic Lottery puts Atlantic Canadians first by keeping more dollars in our region

At Atlantic Lottery, everything we do is rooted in putting Atlantic Canadians first. That means making sure 100 per cent of our profit is returned to the four Atlantic provinces, where it supports health care, education, infrastructure and other services we all rely on. It also means tackling one of the biggest challenges facing our industry today: the impact of illegal gambling operators.

Every year, approximately $200 million leaves Atlantic Canada through unregulated gambling websites that cannot legally operate in our region. That’s money that could be staying here, directly benefitting our communities. Atlantic Lottery is working hard to change that by continuing to evolve our online products and services to better meet the expectations of our players, while also enhancing our healthy play tools and resources to ensure players can enjoy our products as a source of entertainment.

I’m proud of the progress we made over the past year. As we shared in our recently released 2024-25 Annual Report, our iLottery line of business grew by 29 per cent over the previous year, with profit increasing by $25.9 million. Through our efforts to improve our online offerings, we have expanded our share of the region’s total online gaming market from 22 per cent to 34 per cent in a single year. That’s a major step forward as we pursue our ambitious goal of reaching 50 per cent over the next five years. Every percentage point of market share gained represents more dollars staying here in Atlantic Canada and helping to build stronger communities instead of boosting profits for private operators.

What truly sets Atlantic Lottery apart is how we approach this growth. Unlike illegal operators, we require all players to engage with healthy play tools like age and identity verification and weekly deposit limits. On top of that, more players than ever are choosing to use additional voluntary tools like daily wager limits, session caps and time reminders. In fact, nearly 114,000 voluntary healthy play tools were adopted in 2024-25, a 47 per cent increase over the previous year. This shows that players appreciate the balance of fun and responsibility that we bring to the table.

Beyond our digital offerings, we explored innovative and creative ways to share healthy play information with our players in 2024-25. For example, at Sommo Festival 2024 in Cavendish, we invited festival-goers to play our PlayWise Coin Flip game. This unique activation helped bust gambling myths and demonstrate that gambling is for fun and entertainment – not to make money. We also launched the 2025 PlayWise Pass, giving participants the chance to win VIP passes to five Atlantic Lottery-sponsored festivals and events, along with accommodations and a travel voucher. Contestants could earn bonus entries by testing their gambling knowledge every day, resulting in 200,000 entries. We are always exploring new ways to further embed healthy play across our product campaigns. This is a reflection of our belief that healthy play should be part of every interaction players have with Atlantic Lottery.

As we look ahead to explore how we can continue to make a game-changing impact, we’ll continue to expand and improve our offerings so Atlantic Canadians can enjoy entertaining games responsibly while supporting the local economy. At the end of the day, Atlantic Lottery goes beyond the game to ensure that every dollar of profit goes right back into the places we call home.
