Samuel Wainwright of Keswick Ridge, N.B. is the first Atlantic Canadian to win a $100,000 MAXPLUS prize, now available on Lotto Max.

“When we were told we’re the first ones to win this prize in Atlantic Canada, that was awesome,” Wainwright said. “There’s something really special about knowing you’re the very first person to have won on the newest thing, because no one else can claim that.”

Lotto Max draws take place every Tuesday and Friday. As of April 2026, Lotto Max gives players more, with jackpots that can now group up to $90 million and $100,000 MAXPLUS prizes available for every draw. Just like before, MAXMILLIONS prizes are also offered when the jackpot reaches or exceeds $50 million.

“We told my wife’s auntie back in Ontario, and she didn’t believe us when we first said it,” Wainwright said. “She was tearful and essentially said it couldn’t have happened to a better couple, even though she’s biased, of course.”

Wainwright and his wife plan to save most of their winnings, but to put some towards paying bills and renovating their parents’ house. Currently working as a truck driver, Wainwright said the prize money will also support him in making a career change.

“Everyone is struggling with everything going up in prices and in that moment, you think, ‘Wow, we actually have a sum coming our way that will help us get ahead,’” Wainwright said. “It’s still kind of surreal.”

Wainwright purchased his winning ticket at Johnny’s Gas Bar in Island View, N.B. The retailer will receive a one per cent seller’s prize.
