$1M Atlantic 49 win means retirement for P.E.I. man and his wife
Bob Muise of Fairview, P.E.I. is the province’s newest millionaire after winning the Atlantic 49 top prize worth $1 million on the Oct. 10 draw. Just over a week later, he and his wife have both notified their respective employers of their retirement.
“She’ll be done in November, and I’ll be done in December,” Muise said. “This has changed my life for the better and we’re going to take our time and live the rest of our lives on it.”
Only available in Atlantic Canada, Atlantic 49 can be played on its own or as an add-on to any Lotto 6/49 ticket. The draw game offers a top prize of $1 million, as well as a guaranteed prize of $25,649 that is awarded every draw.
Muise makes all of his lottery purchases online, with a subscription in place on alc.ca to ensure he never misses a draw.
“The subscription is just so easy. It automatically renews every month and I get a ticket in every draw,” Muise said. “It’s completely convenient and I can just forget about it until I get a prize notice like I just did.”
Despite playing the lottery for more than 30 years, and never missing a draw thanks to his subscription, Muise was skeptical when he received an email notifying him of his big win.
“I thought it was a scam and immediately discounted the email,” Muise said. “I logged into the alc.ca mobile app and found a message under the notification tab that said, ‘Congratulations, you won,’ and I still didn’t believe it.”
As it was only 6 a.m. at the time, Muise had to wait two more hours until Atlantic Lottery’s Customer Care Centre opened at 8 a.m. to call and finally confirm the news of his big win.
In addition to planning for their retirement – him from the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires and his wife from a career in retail management – Muise says they will use the prize money towards updating their home and taking a dream trip back to a resort they loved staying at more than 10 years ago in Jamaica.
