ATLANTIC WINS

N.B. mother-daughter duo share $500K Daily Grand prize

Sandra Millard and her daughter Tarra Millard, both of Clarendon, N.B., have been purchasing lottery together since 2023. What started as a way to dream of the possibilities together turned into a reality when they won the second prize on Daily Grand.

“I’m all over the place, bouncing, don’t believe it,” Sandra said. “I never thought we’d win anything like this before, I’m still waiting for it to sink in.”

Daily Grand is a national draw game that offers two options for the second prize. Winners can choose to receive $25,000 a year for life or a lump sum of $500,000. The Millards will receive the lump sum payment.

While Sandra has felt restless with disbelief since they learned of their big win, Tarra has had the opposite reaction.

“To me this is kind of calming because the biggest issue I’ve had lately is always stressing about finances,” Tarra said. “Knowing we’ve got this, that is most of my stress gone and I’ve slept better.”

After living far from her daughter for many years, Sandra and her husband moved to New Brunswick and in with Tarra and her family as soon as they retired. Soon after, the Millards started their weekly lottery purchases together.

“My mom and I have always been really close, kind of like best friends, kind of like sisters,” Tarra said. “We’ve always liked just dreaming about what we’d do if we won, discuss different things and plans.”

While the mother and daughter don’t know exactly how they’ll spend all of the prize money just yet, they are sure the first $100,000 will be put to good use.

“We’ll put the bulk of it in the bank, each take $50,000 and do what we need to do, pay off bills, go Christmas shopping, just spoil ourselves a bit,” Tarra said. “Then let the rest sit, maybe invest some of it and maybe in the new year look at buying a new home for us all.”

“I’m looking forward to it, and I think she’s looking forward to it as well. We’re going to have fun,” Sandra added.

Tarra purchased the duo’s winning Daily Grand ticket at Esso Proxi Church in Saint John, N.B.
