Walk, run or crawl: you won’t want to miss the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl festival

Hoping to head south this winter? Why not head south to the South Shore of Nova Scotia!

While the South Shore might not offer the warm, sunny weather you had in mind, it can offer you over 150 exciting events that feature everyone’s favourite Atlantic Canadian crustacean – lobster. This is all thanks to an incredible festival that takes place the entire month of February, the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl.

Atlantic Lottery is proud to sponsor festivals and events across Atlantic Canada that help bring communities to life. This festival is one of the many we’re proud to support as it fosters community spirit and celebrates what makes our region so unique.

During the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl, you can find events happening across all points of the South Shore, anywhere from Barrington – the lobster capital of Canada, to Peggy’s Cove and every port in between.

Prior to the festivities, a team from Atlantic Lottery had the opportunity to go south and meet with festival director Menna Riley to learn a bit more about this celebration.

“The impact that it creates for the communities and for the businesses on the South Shore is absolutely incredible,” Riley said. “We’re seeing booming business in February, it’s fantastic. We love hosting all of these visitors that come from near and far to taste lobster at its finest.”

While it’s no secret that the South Shore’s population greatly increases in summer, partly due to the picturesque views, one of the biggest takeaways from this recent trip was that the region is just as jaw dropping in the winter months.

Oh, and the lobster. Did we mention the lobster? Conveniently enough, the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl takes place during the peak of lobster fishing season. Need we say more?
