Community Proud

Building a better community, at work and beyond

Whether it’s getting the word out about jackpot winners, planning fundraising events with Atlantic Lottery’s community partners or volunteering with local non-profits in her spare time, Lindsay Meekins is someone who seeks to leave a positive mark on the world around her.

In recognition of that spirit, she was recently honoured as one of Future of Good’s 21 Youth Reshaping Governance for 2019. The list recognizes young Canadian leaders making a significant contribution as board directors for non-profit organizations.

A member of Atlantic Lottery’s communications team, Meekins also serves on the board of YWCA Moncton, a local women’s resource centre committed to social justice with a focus on gender equity.

Meekins says her time on the YWCA board has taught her to see the world more clearly from the perspective of others.

“We all have different opportunities provided to us and different obstacles we face,” she says. “So many are challenged with difficult circumstances that make it more complicated to get ahead in life. As a society, we need to recognize these situations and address them in order to help ensure everyone gets the opportunities they deserve.”

Meekins’ teammates at Atlantic Lottery weren’t surprised she was selected as one of three Atlantic Canadians recognized from the more than 125 nominations received from across Canada.

“Lindsay has always been an impact-focused person, a talent we see in the work she undertakes every day at Atlantic Lottery,” says Courtney Pringle-Carver, vice-president of external affairs. “Since joining the board of the YWCA, Lindsay has brought her experience and expertise to the organization’s communications efforts while helping to drive fundraising efforts.”

While the YWCA Moncton’s main focus is gender equity, Meekins says she is proud the organization goes above and beyond its mandate to combat other social issues. Initiatives and fundraisers to address climate change, homelessness and other concerns are among some of the ways she says the YWCA Moncton strives to achieve wellness and equality for all.
